Emergency!

My good old buddy C came down from CT after years of living in excess of 1,000 miles away. He and his family (wife and two kids) took a tour of lower Manhattan and then a ferry to Lady Liberty and were having a wonderful time when tragedy struck! Little boy took a spill on some steps outside the gift shop and split his eybrow good enough for an ambulance ride to a hospital for stitches. H and I, exiled from the ambulance ride, walked off the ferry pier to hop on a shuttle bus, and caught the light rail just in time to find the 5:25 Hoboken to Broadway-Fair Lawn waiting for us. Back at home, we hopped into our guests' car (kiddie car seats a necessity) and sailed down to JC Med CTR where we sat in forty-five minutes of stopped traffic for road "destruction" over the Newark Bay Extension of the turnpike. When we finally arrived our pals were very happy to find that we had not abandoned them even though the waiting wasn't over. Little boy was there playing in the waiting room for over four hours like nothing happened. (Relief!) H and I were so starving we ate at a McDonalds for the first time in over two years. After ingesting a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese I secretly thought to myself it was a damn good thing we were going back to the emergency room!
